What is NTC thermistor?

1. introduction of NTC thermistor.

 NTC thermistor is a thermistor with negative temperature coefficient, whose resistance decreases exponentially with temperature rise. NTC thermistor is a kind of semiconductor ceramic element. Its main material is oxides of various metals such as nickel, copper, cobalt and manganese, which are fully mixed, molded and sintered. It is manufactured by ceramic technology. The resistivity material constant varies with the material composition ratio, sintering atmosphere, sintering temperature and structural state. NTC thermistors are generally used in surge suppression, temperature compensation and temperature measurement.

2. The working principle of NTC thermistor.

 In order to avoid the surge current generated in the electronic circuit at the instant of starting, a power NTC thermistor is usually connected in series in the power supply circuit. Before starting, the NTC thermistor has a high resistance, which can effectively suppress the surge current during starting. After the suppression of surge current is completed, the resistance value of the power NTC thermistor will drop to a very small degree due to the continuous action of its current, and its power consumption is negligible compared with that of the circuit. The voltage is almost completely applied to the equipment at the back to ensure the normal operation of the line. Therefore, the use of power NTC thermistor in the power circuit is the simplest and most effective measure to suppress the surge current during startup and protect the electronic equipment from damage.

3. Product characteristics of NTC thermistor.

Good stability, high sensitivity, convenient use, small size, high power, strong ability to restrain surge current, wide working temperature range, high resistance precision and strong overload capability, which are widely used in protection of power circuits of household appliances, switching power supplies, electronic energy-saving lamps and various electronic devices and electronic ballasts.
