What is varistor?

Varistor is a kind of resistance device with nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics. In Taiwan Province, China, it is also called surge absorber and sometimes electric shock suppressor (absorber). It is mainly used for surge protection of low-voltage electrical appliances, mostly zinc oxide varistor. 

The resistor material of piezoresistor is semiconductor, so it is a variety of semiconductor resistors. According to the investigation, "ZnO" varistor is used in a high amount, which is composed of divalent element zinc and hexavalent element oxygen.
